Biffy Clyro are a Scottish rock band formed in Kilmarnock in 1995. The trio consists of Simon Neil (lead vocals, guitar), and twin brothers James Johnston (bass, backing vocals) and Ben Johnston (drums, backing vocals). During live shows, they are often joined by touring musicians Mike Vennart on guitar and Richard “Gambler” Ingram on keyboards and guitar.

The band began when 15-year-old Simon Neil started playing his songs, initially recruiting Ben Johnston and briefly another member before James joined to complete the classic lineup. After early independent releases and signing with Beggars Banquet Records, they released their debut album Blackened Sky in 2002, followed by The Vertigo of Bliss (2003) and Infinity Land (2004), which built a dedicated following in the alternative rock scene.

Their breakthrough came after switching to 14th Floor Records, with the 2007 album Puzzle reaching No. 2 in the UK and earning platinum certification. This success continued with Only Revolutions (2009), which went double-platinum, earned a Mercury Prize nomination, and featured hits like “Mountains” and “Many of Horror” (later covered by Matt Cardle as the 2010 UK Christmas No. 1 single).

Biffy Clyro achieved their first UK No. 1 album with the double album Opposites in 2013, winning Best British Band at the NME Awards. Subsequent No. 1 albums include Ellipsis (2016), A Celebration of Endings (2020), and The Myth of the Happily Ever After (2021). Their 10th studio album, Futique, was released in September 2025 and also topped the UK and Scottish charts.

Known for their powerful live performances, anthemic songs, and dynamic sound blending rock, alternative, and emotional depth, Biffy Clyro have become one of Scotland’s most successful and enduring rock acts, with multiple awards, festival headline slots, and a loyal global fanbase. In 2026, they continue touring in support of Futique, despite James Johnston taking time out for personal health reasons.
