Jordan Edward Benjamin, professionally known as grandson, is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and rapper born on October 25, 1993, in Englewood, New Jersey. At age three, he moved with his family to Toronto, Ontario, where he grew up in a musical household influenced by classic rock, hip-hop, dancehall, and other genres. Holding dual citizenship in the United States and Canada, he later attended McGill University in Montreal, where he began seriously pursuing music by teaching himself guitar and piano, beatboxing, freestyling, and recording early demos.
Emerging in the mid-2010s, grandson built an online following with his distinctive fusion of alternative rock, trap beats, hip-hop, and electronic elements, often layered with politically charged, introspective, and socially conscious lyrics addressing themes like mental health, systemic issues, addiction, and personal struggle. His breakout single “Blood // Water,” released in 2018, achieved platinum certification in the United States and became a staple in alternative music circles for its intense energy and anthemic delivery.
Grandson signed with Fueled by Ramen and RCA Records early in his career, releasing his debut album a modern tragedy vol. 1 (2018) and follow-up projects that solidified his reputation for high-octane, message-driven music. His full-length debut Death of an Optimist arrived in 2020, followed by I Love You, I’m Trying in 2023, both showcasing evolving songwriting that balanced raw aggression with vulnerability and storytelling. In 2025, grandson became an independent artist through his own label, XX Records, and released his third studio album, INERTIA, on September 5.
The record continues his tradition of potent, resistance-themed content, with the tagline “It’s Never Enough Rest, Tomorrow Is Approaching” capturing its urgent tone.
Known for his explosive live performances, grandson has earned acclaim for delivering chaotic, engaging shows that blend musical intensity with audience connection. As of February 2026, he is actively touring Europe and the UK on the INERTIA Tour (also referred to as The Inertia Tour or the resistance tour extension), a major international headlining run supporting the new album.
The tour, which extends from late 2025 into mid-2026, includes dates across multiple countries, with recent and upcoming stops in cities like Manchester (Academy on February 26), Birmingham (O2 Institute on February 28), Bristol (Electric Bristol on March 1), London (O2 Forum Kentish Town on March 2), and Glasgow (SWG3 on March 3), among others. These shows highlight his dynamic stage presence, drawing crowds for high-energy sets featuring tracks old and new. Through his music and activism-infused approach, grandson remains a voice for rebellion and reflection in modern alternative music, continually pushing boundaries as an independent force.
