Following a gorgeous show at KOKO last night, today London-based Pop singer-songwriter CHARLS releases her anthemic new single, ‘Begging On My Birthday’. Today’s release follows self-affirming single ‘Trust My Gut’ and vulnerable single ‘Heads Up’. Previously co-signed by Elton John and Lewis Capaldi, CHARLS continues to make strides as an independent artist with an emotionally honest and ambitiously intimate sound. Listen to ‘Begging On My Birthday’ HERE.

“I wish that you’d do better” sings CHARLS on ‘Begging On My Birthday’, a familiar story of frustration as she asks a partner to just do “the bare minimum”, tired of bidding for his attention. By its anthemic and soulful conclusion, CHARLS finally learns to love herself, flexing wisdom beyond her years.

On the single, CHARLS says, “A common occurrence was that I was the organiser of everything. I’m definitely guilty of taking up a lot of space by being overly maternal but the effort I put in for my partner on his birthday just wasn’t reciprocated. The overall statement in the song is, if you can’t show up for me on my birthday then we’re pretty much damned for the rest of the year, aren’t we? I love that you can hear some of my favourite indie influences in this song, specifically Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap.”

Initially discovered by GRAMMY Award-nominated producer Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie, Jessie J, John Legend), CHARLS now embraces full creative independence with a renewed sense of authenticity. Her forthcoming debut album tells a step-by-step, real-time story of love lost and self reclaimed, a project that captures empowerment through vulnerability. With previous support from Billboard, CLASH, Wonderland, Line of Best Fit, and more, CHARLS has earned critical praise for her soulful vocals and introspective songwriting. She’s opened for the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Tom Odell, Jess Glynne, and Bastille, and performed at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza Berlin, and Isle of Wight.

As she reintroduces herself to the world, CHARLS is ready to reclaim her narrative, this time on her own terms.
