One of Australia’s most cherished songwriters, Chet Faker, is returning today with his heart on his sleeve, in ‘Inefficient Love’, following on from ‘Far Side of the Moon’.
Inefficient Love is a beautifully intimate declaration of unconditional love, an introspective look into Chet Faker with his walls down, his talent on display in its rawest form. With gorgeously layered vocals over a somber guitar strum, Nick Murphy – the ARIA-winning songwriter, musician, and producer behind Chet Faker – sings of the tension between the love he receives and the love he is longing for.
Of the song, Murphy says: ‘Inefficient Love’ was one of those songs that beamed in from somewhere. I was sitting on my couch at home watching a show and start playing the guitar and just played the whole song in about 5 minutes. It feels old and I love it’.
An artist of considerable range, Chet Faker has carved out an extraordinary path to success in Australian Music since first going viral in 2011. His first EP, Thinking in Textures, won Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards, consolidating his reputation as an artist on a meteoric rise. The following years saw him launch into the pop stratosphere: his cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” was featured in a Super Bowl commercial, and his 2014 debut LP Built on Glass debuted at #1, spawning the hits “Gold” and “Talk Is Cheap” (the latter topping Triple J’s Hottest 100) and ultimately earning five ARIA Awards.
It is a career defined by his restless creativity, he’s continued to build a critically acclaimed discography including collaborations with artists like Flume and Marcus Marr, several albums under his birth name, Nick Murphy, and the much lauded 2021 full-length, Hotel Surrender, which included the hits “Low” and “Feel Good” and reached the top 20 of the ARIA albums chart.
Chet Faker will play two nights at HERE at Outernet on 23rd and 24th October 2025, any remaining tickets can be purchased HERE.
