The legendary, linen-wrapped lords of funk, Here Come the Mummies, are gearing up to release their newest single, “Nomadic Life,” out now. The track serves as the next taste of their forthcoming EP, Road Trip, which arrives January 16 and promises a whole new batch of the band’s signature “Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave.”
“Nomadic Life” is a bold, swaggering ode to constant motion—an anthem for wanderers, thrill-seekers, and anyone who lives for the next adventure. As the band puts it, “We are the wandering kind. And we live in The Now. And we’re comin’ to your town. And we’re gonna throw down.” The single embodies everything fans have come to love about HCTM: airtight grooves, sly humour, and the unstoppable energy of a band that refuses to stay buried.
The upcoming Road Trip EP expands that spirit into a full journey, capturing the feeling of piling into a ride with friends, cranking the volume, and letting the highway decide the rest. From the funk-soaked joy of “Road Trip” to the winking mischief of “Backdoor,” the EP is a celebration of movement, freedom, and the wonderfully weird situations that happen along the way. With the punchy escape anthem “Rubber Meets the Road,” the swaggering wanderlust of “Nomadic Life,” and the playfully cryptic “DTF” (“Down Town Funk,” the band reminds us—though they fully expect your mind to wander), the collection bottles pure good vibes.
Since their discovery, Here Come the Mummies have built a reputation as one of North America’s most electrifying live acts. Whether sharing the stage with icons like P-Funk, Al Green, Mavis Staples, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Cheap Trick, or lighting up massive festivals such as Summer Fest, Summer Camp, Bluesfest Byron Bay, Musikfest, and Suwannee Hulaween, the band continues to prove that not even 5000 years underground can stop a truly unstoppable groove. They’ve rocked the Super Bowl Village, become beloved regulars on The Bob & Tom Show, appeared on That’s My Jam with Jimmy Fallon, and packed venues nationwide with crowds eager to lose their minds to the mayhem.
The Mummies’ true origins remain shrouded in mystery—some insist they were cursed after deflowering a Pharaoh’s daughter, while others claim they are reincarnated Grammy-winning studio musicians. Whatever the truth, their cunning songwriting, outrageous stage presence, and relentless commitment to funk have made them an unstoppable force. One thing is certain: their live show will bend your brain and melt your face.
