Manchester singer-songwriter John Blaylock is a new solo artist with a storied background in music, his talents attracting top tier collaborators such as the two-time Grammy winner Guy Massey (Ed Sheeran, Manic Street Preachers, Jack Savoretti), Helen Boulding (Ward Thomas) and Freddy Sheed (Lewis Capaldi). Now John is set to be discovered by a wider audience with his new single ‘Moonshine & Roses’, which previews the release of his debut album ‘Sounds Of The Dreadnought’ on March 20th. Listen HERE.
‘Moonshine & Roses’ introduces a singer-songwriter who is unafraid to explore introspective confessionals of his own truths. The message is one of determination and defiance: we may struggle with the day-to-day challenges of our own issues and the obstacles that others put in our path, but it’s vital to continue to stand for what you believe in. John cleverly manages to shape that theme into a song that balances melancholy and optimism, with a pop-infused take on the singer-songwriter tradition with a touch of gritty open road Americana.
While ‘Moonshine & Roses’ reflects John’s admiration for Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, the ‘Sounds Of The Dreadnought’ album goes deeper into his myriad of influences: there are moments which lean into the classicism of James Taylor, the pastoral beauty of Nick Drake, aim towards the acoustic/hip-hop crossover of Jamie T, or even classic Manchester bands like The Stone Roses or The Charlatans. Those touchpoints are anchored by John’s tender voice and his lived-in, literature-adjacent lyricism.
‘Sounds Of The Dreadnought’ is available to pre-order HERE. The album will be released digitally as well as on pink vinyl, CD and pink cassette.
John’s recent live shows have taken him from intimate sets at The Ned and Rough Trade East to festival stages at Beautiful Days and The Great Escape and big theatres as guest to the rejuvenated Wet Wet Wet. He’s now set to head out on the following headline tour. Remaining tickets are available HERE.
