Sir Paul McCartney, Simon Le Bon and Steve Van Zandt’s ‘Little Steven’s Underground Garage’ have all contributed to the rise of Leonie Jakobi, while tastemaker support has included 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Planet Rock, Sirius XM, House of Solo and Music Talkers. Her full talents are set to be discovered when she releases her debut album ‘What Are The People Gonna Say?’ on September 5th. She today shares the latest preview of the record with the new single ‘The Life My Parents Had’. Listen HERE.
‘The Life My Parents Had’ serves up a summer cocktail of Beach Boys shimmer, surf-rock nostalgia and Springsteen-style storytelling. That provides the bright and groovy setting for Leonie Jakobi to pose questions about how her life differs from that of her parents. She lives between the UK and Germany, and is always excited by opportunities to take her music on new adventures. In contrast, her parents were together since her mother was eighteen and her father lived in the same house for his entire life. But this is a song about respecting and acknowledging how we’re all different, with varying desires and expectations.
Leonie says, “‘The Life My Parents Had’ dives into the push and pull of growing up: questioning whether the life you once watched your parents live is something to run from or circle back to. It captures that restless twenty-something feeling of chasing freedom, doubting tradition, and wondering if safety and simplicity might be more meaningful than you thought.”
Leonie will play two sets in her adopted hometown of Liverpool at the IPO Festival: the Cavern Pub at 4.30pm, followed by a late night 1am start at the Cavern Live Lounge. Further UK festivals come at Coast Fest and Wokingham Festival, before she places a special album launch show at Dreieichenhain Castle in Germany. The dates are:
