Following the acclaimed success of his North Shields 800 documentary 800 Years – Here We Are, Liam Fender returns with the soaring new single of the same name – an anthemic, heartfelt closer to a three-year creative journey that has established him as one of the North East’s most authentic songwriters.
Released Friday 28 November 2025, Here We Are arrives with a sense of reflection and renewal – a moment to look back, to breathe, and to step quietly into whatever comes next.
A final chapter – for now
The single rounds off a trio of releases – the Love Will EP (2023), the Man Down EP (2024) and now Here We Are (2025) – drawing a line under a powerful creative period that has taken Liam from intimate venues to the big screen.
With towering guitars, cinematic dynamics and that unmistakably Northern warmth, Here We Are captures the bittersweet glow of an ending that feels like a beginning. It’s a song about resilience, belonging and the light that comes just before you disappear into the sun.
Liam Fender says: “This one’s for everyone who’s been part of the journey so far. It’s about finding light in the moments before you disappear into the sun. North Shields will always be home – its people and its spirit run through everything I do. After the documentary, I felt like this song was the right way to say thank you. It’s not a goodbye, more of a see you later.”
From screen to song
The release follows the successful film premiere of 800 Years – Here We Are, which Liam fronted and hosted as part of the North Shields 800 celebrations. Produced by Northeast Fuse and XL Creative Media, and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the North East Combined Authority, the documentary explored the town’s cultural and musical heritage through its people, landmarks and stories – with Liam as the thread binding it all together.
Now, the song takes that same spirit and translates it into sound – a personal anthem for a community that has always found strength in its own voice.
Limited edition CD collection
To mark the moment, Liam is releasing a very limited edition CD collection featuring the Love Will EP, Man Down EP and the brand-new single Here We Are. Available only at his two Christmas shows in North Shields and online for a short time, the collection serves as a collector’s item and a thank-you to fans who’ve been part of the ride since day one.
A hometown farewell – but not goodbye
Liam will celebrate the single’s release with two intimate hometown shows in North Shields this Christmas, performing songs from across his catalogue in what will be his final live appearance for a while.
It promises to be an emotional night – a moment to look back, to sing along, and to wave Liam off as he takes a well-earned break. As he puts it: “Sometimes you have to step away to see where you’re meant to go next.”
Liam will bring Here We Are to the stage for two intimate Christmas shows at Red Studios, Synergy House, Lawson Street, North Shields, on Saturday 6 December and Sunday 8 December.
