‘WHY?’ is a heart-on-the-sleeve offering from Ms Banks, showcasing not only inward vulnerability, but a poignant and timely discussion of her experience as a Black woman from South London. As the title suggests, on ‘WHY?’ Banks poses as many questions as she answers. The versatility of her voice is showcased on the chorus, over rap production courtesy of OGB and AJ Productions.
Speaking on the track, Ms Banks says: “WHY? is super important to me, I feel like it’s the most honest I’ve been in a long time and to make it a single was pivotal, not just an album track. The love has already been immense and it’s nice to feel seen for who I truly am and ask the difficult questions, the only way I can find my tribe.”
The single drop comes alongside the announcement of the ‘SOUTH LDN LOVER GIRL Tour’, which will see Banks perform tracks from her debut album live for the very first time. The headline run will kick off on 10th April in Amsterdam, moving through Paris, Birmingham, Manchester and concluding on 23rd April at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.
