Following the release of his stunning new album Knees Up, which charted at number 5 in the UK’s Album Chart last week, Olly Murs and The Ordinary Boys are kicking off the holiday season with their brand new single ‘Christmas Starts Tonight’. Listen HERE.
A rework of his fun time single ‘Run This Town,’ ‘Christmas Starts Tonight’ brings the festive cheer to 2025 and continues Olly’s long working relationship with Preston from The Ordinary Boys.
Olly says of the track – “‘Christmas Starts Tonight’ has had the maddest journey… It began as a demo of ‘Run This Town’ that never quite found its moment. Fast forward to 2025 and it ends up on my new album, I perform it on Strictly, and suddenly I’m hearing it as a Christmas song. So I sent Sam a message and somehow we’ve turned it into a full-on festive anthem and properly reconnected in the process. It feels fresh, it feels fun, and honestly… I couldn’t be more excited to now have a fully fledged Christmas tune out with The Ordinary Boys.”
Sam Preston says – “One of the first songs I wrote after The Ordinary Boys was ‘Heart Skips A Beat’. It somehow went on to become a colossal Number One for Olly who, to my amazement, turned out not only to be a gifted singer, performer and songwriter, but also an admirer of The Ordinary Boys. We’ve had great fun recording together over the years, and ‘Christmas Starts Tonight’ is no exception. Born from the bones of ‘Run This Town’, a tune that had been languishing in a dusty folder on Olly’s phone for fifteen years, it has finally been granted a new life as a Yuletide anthem. A small seasonal miracle, really.”
Last month Olly released his brand new album Knees Up. Packed to the brim with feel good tunes, including the incredibly infectious first single ‘Save Me,’ the ska infused ‘Bonkers’ and fun time single ‘Run This Town,’ which Olly recently performed on Strictly Come Dancing, Knees Up sees Olly return to his roots for the eighth LP in his glittering career.
After an incredible run of outdoor summer shows, a huge sold-out 15 year anniversary arena tour and closing the summer with a blistering performance at Radio 2 In The Park, Olly will return to London for a very special intimate show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on December 8th.
