Penn & Teller, the undisputed masters of modern magic, were today, after 50 years of performing magic together, inducted into the Magic Circle. The long-awaited presentation took place on the steps of the Palladium today (Friday 19 September) where the duo are currently halfway through their first ever west end 11-date residency to celebrate their incredible 50th Anniversary. Tickets available via AEGPRESENTS.CO.UK

In the past, Penn & Teller, two of the world’s most famous magicians, were always denied membership to the Magic Circle due to their unconventional style, but their 50th anniversary was the perfect moment to end this long rejection. The presentation of the society’s highest honour was made by Magic Circle President Marvin Berglas.

The Magic Circle was formed in 1905 and now has around 1750 members all around the world. These include the best magicians, illusionists and mentalists who have passed a stringent exam to join. Besides the elite in this field there are talented hobbyists including King Charles III who performed a Cups and Balls routine for his audition 50 years ago.

Penn & Teller said: “We’re honoured that the Magic Circle has invited us to be members, after we’ve violated its cardinal rule — don’t give away secrets — for five decades. This is going to be fun.”

Renowned for their jaw-dropping performances, a joyous exploration of magic and comedy, Penn & Teller first performed together on 19 August 1975 and are now arguably the world’s most famous magicians. Penn & Teller have redefined the genre of magic and carved out their well-deserved status as icons. Using every year of their experiences of magic and mayhem, the anniversary tour showcases incredible new tricks, and offers UK audiences a rare opportunity to see the duo perform live.
