The Harriets very kindly gave TotalNtertainment a few mins of their time ahead for #360RAW3 night in Leeds in a couple of weeks.

1. So, who are The Harriets?

For the most part, Dan and Ben – a songwriting and producing partnership based in Leeds. Live, we have a drummer on board and become a power trio playing power pop.

2. Describe your sound in less than ten words

Vocal harmonies, melodic bass, jangly guitar, properly crafted tunes.

3. How did you get involved in the #360RAW night?

We’d headlined a 360Club show for Richard before, and we’d had a few of our singles played on BBC Introducing by Alan Raw. Things came together nicely when they selected us to play the night. Thanks chaps!

4. What can we expect from your set?

Infectious on-stage camaraderie and a bucket load of energy, if the critics are to be believed! Musically, a bunch of catchy songs that nod to a variety of styles and influences.

5.What are your thoughts on the music scene in Yorkshire?

It’s not got a ‘name’ attached to it in the way Manchester or Sheffield have, but that’s not a problem for us – we like to think it’s always developing, and there’s no shortage of great artists around. And nights like #360RAW are great, championing grassroots music and bringing new talent to the fore.

6. What has been your most memorable local gig to date?

For us, probably opening a stage at the Bingley Music Live festival last summer. For memorable gig anecdotes, it has to be supporting this crazy band called the Grindcore Cake Makers who were making horrible noises and flinging cake around.

7. Are there any other upcoming Yorkshire acts that you think we should be checking out?

Tranqua Lite – an awesome proggy art-rock band; I saw them for the first time a few months ago and couldn’t believe how tight they were. Also, our talented pals Purple Thread and Able’s Army.

8. Where can people check out your music and do you have any other gigs coming up?

It can be heard on Spotify, YouTube and Bandcamp – just search The Harriets. We’re playing Long Division festival in June, and there’ll be a lot more confirmed for the summer. Keep an eye on our social media.

9. Curveball question: who would win a fight between Superman and Batman?

Batman! This has been proven numerous times. It’s not a matter of debate anymore.

10. What are your plans for the rest of 2018?

We’re going to be putting out a lot more video content of what we’re up to – our recording process, working on songs, and maybe a monthly series of acoustic covers. We’re in an age where it’s not fair to just be making music – it’s only fair that you share behind the scenes with your audience as well.
