Leading music and arts festival Latitude festival returns to the picturesque grounds of Henham Park, Suffolk, on 20-23 July 2023 with Pulp, Paolo Nutini, George Ezra, Young Fathers and Siouxsie plus comedians Ed Gamble, Romesh Ranganathan, Sara Pascoe and Bridget Christie topping an eclectic bill where music meets the arts. Celebrating creativity, diversity and inspirational talent, Latitude Festival adds yet more names to the arts and music stages, transforming Henham Park into the ultimate playground of artistic expression. Across the music stages, a host of eclectic trailblazers have been added. Something for everyone would be an understatement – this is a mind-blowing lineup to make you want to stay up forever.
Thundering Liverpool four-piece The Mysterines join the Latitude bill fresh from the success of their debut album “Reeling”. Building on their solid and formidable presence in the live arena, having already supported the likes of Muse, Bloc Party, and Primal Scream at shows across Europe and in the U.S. this year, The Mysterines recently supported icons Arctic Monkeys on their UK stadium tour.
Jeshi, the East London rapper creating reflective, cutting-edge hip-hop also makes a blistering Latitude debut. His debut album”‘Universal Credit”’ demanded the attention of critics and fans alike, and the record saw Jeshi hope to bring reality and honesty to how the most ignored and dehumanised in British society are viewed.
International psych explorers Flamingods headline Latitude’s Alcove www. Inspired by the disco, funk and psychedelic sounds coming out of the Middle East and South Asia in the 70s, they channel influences through a vision soaked in mysticism, positivity and sun-drenched imagery. The band heads to Latitude ahead of a much anticipated new album slated for Autumn 2023.
This year’s Latitude will also feature a special appearance by current British poet laureate Simon Armitage and his ‘ambient post-rock’ band LYR. A genre-splicing supergroup, LYR sets Armitage’s spoken word to intense, atmospheric arrangements by singer-songwriter Richard Walters and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Pearson
Pop powerhouse Katie Gregson-MacLeod also makes her Latitude debut. She became famous in 2022 when her melancholic breakup ballad “Complex” went viral on TikTok. Overnight, the clip garnered over 100,000 views and eventually amassed over 8 million views. Katie is joined on the bill by Los Angeles-based duo Bre Morell and Shaun Durkan of 90s-inspired dream pop duo crushed who gained attention last year from their single “Waterlily”.
Hot off the back of releasing her anticipated third single, “In My Head”, Latitude is also pleased to welcome rising Irish folk singer Nell Mescal. Nell has had a whirlwind few months which has included the success of debut single “Graduating”, followed by indie thriller “Homesick”. She performed her first live gig on Ireland’s The Late Late Show, duetted with Phoebe Bridgers in Brixton and embarked upon her first-ever headline tour. Also performing is Dirty Hit signee Oscar Lang who joins the bill in support of his upcoming new album “Look Now”.
With their debut full-length “Lost In A Rush Of Emptiness” on the way this summer, ethereal dream pop four-piece Bleach Lab join Latitude on the cusp of greatness. The band’s dazzling debut EPs “A Calm Sense of Surrounding”, “Nothing Feels Real” and “If You Only Feel It Once”, are just a taste of the band’s dazzling potential. Having teased a new record with the single “Indigo” earlier this year, this week they released an epic new single “Counting Empties”
Welsh five-piece punk band Panic Shack bring their witty lyrics and killer hooks to the festival. They crashed through the UK music scene with a tidal wave of ear-crunching noise. Immediately building up a reputation for their raw, unapologetic live shows and off-kilter songs.
Upcoming singer, songwriter, producer and accidental TikTok star – Michael Aldag also joins the bill. Already every inch a total popstar, at just 19 his prodigious knack for observational tunesmithery vividly captures life’s joys, sorrows, and everything in between. “Lean Into Life”. He is joined on the bill by the rising alt-pop star behind the viral hit “If We Ever Broke Up”, Mae Stephens who has already amassed 58 million streams.
Etta Marcus’ voice is that of a once-in-a-generation talent. Deeply timeless yet strikingly relevant, the twenty-one-year-old singer-songwriter evokes wistful nostalgia and tongue-in-cheek wisdom all in the same breath. Marcus is destined for greatness, and the chance to witness her balladry in the flesh at Latitude is not one to miss.
Soundtracking the summer, Humble the Great’s sophisticated blend of funk basslines and woozy, lo-fi textures will be sure to capture the attention of the Latitude audience as will LA-musician Claud, who was Phoebe Bridgers’ first signing new label to Saddest Factory whose single “Soft Spot” was included on Vogue’s list of “The 38 Best Songs of 2021.
Completing the music additions are new Irish indie-folk band Kingfishr who have been announced as the support act on George Ezra’s UK & Ireland summer tour, Max Fulcrum & The Win hotly tipped by So Young Magazine as “lyrically subversive yet audibly untouchable”, up and coming Manchester group Corella, emerging singer-songwriter Jo Hill and Glasgow 7 piece The Joy Hotel, dubbed the most exciting new band in Scotland.
Home of world-class comedy, this year’s Latitude features spectacular stand-up stars and cutting-edge new talent with the largest comedy lineup in the UK. Following his headline set, Romesh Ranganathan will be bringing the late-night party to the Comedy Arena, closing the Latitude festival with one of his rare and riotous Hip Hop Saved My Life parties. Ranganathan and his tour DJ Martin2smoove will create an exclusive Hip Hop Saved My Festival set with a soundtrack provided by some of the best DJs in the world.
Latitude favourite, BAFTA-nominated comedian, musician, actor and improviser Rachel Parris who is best known for her viral segments on The Mash Report and Late Night Mash also makes a welcome return to the festival with a comedy set packed with stand-up, song, sketch, and inevitably a sideways swipe at society. Star of Argumental, Live At The Apollo, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week – award-winning comedian Marcus Brigstocke will join Rachel on the comedy line-up, celebrating the personal triumphs and small victories of the past few years.
Also joining the bill is star of stage and screen Sindhu Vee. Vee’s growing list of guest appearances includes Live at The Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie To You? and Richard Osman’s House of Games. Acting credits include Feel Good and Sex Education, and the Netflix film adaptation of Matilda. Alongside her Radio 4 series, she fronts the Comedy of the Week podcast and often pops up on The News Quiz and The Unbelievable Truth.
Fresh from a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer, one of comedy’s most exciting breakthrough voices, Celya AB makes her Latitude debut with a show full of ‘sharp and observant gags’ (Joe Lycett). Celya is joined by award-winning stand-up comedian and writer and LGBTQ New Comedian of the Year 2019 Charlie George. Charlie has performed stand-up on BBC Asian Network Live and the BBC’s No Country for Young Women Podcast, as well as appearing on Comedy Central in Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains.
Following a storming set at Latitude last year, the multi-award winning, nationally celebrated and acerbically witty ‘self-declared siren from South Yorkshire’ and Britain’s Got Talent 2020 semi-finalist Myra DuBois also makes a welcome return. Holding it all together is one of the audience’s favourite Latitude compere – David Morgan – who will return to host some of the best names in comedy.
Fresh from opening for Ed Gamble and Marc Maron and after a sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe, the Best New Show at Leicester Comedy Festival 2022 winner Ania Magliano also takes to the Latitude www. Joining Ania on the bill is Michael Adakiri, who will be leaving his scrubs behind as he makes his Latitude debut. Don’t miss The LOL Word who are sure to be hosting another of their chaotic comedy parties featuring the very best queer stand-up, drag and musical comedy.
Already announced on the comedy line-up, Fern Brady will also read from her Sunday Times bestseller Strong Female Character, a candid and groundbreaking memoir of neurodiversity, sexism and defying expectations. Award-winning comedian, actor and writer Laura Lexx reads from her acclaimed debut novel Pivot: A Story Of Dropping The Ball, Picking It Up Again, And Turning Things Around.
Across the weekend a range of cutting-edge new and emerging comedians, cabaret acts and raconteurs will perform at The Outpost. Expect the unexpected as Adam Flood, Ania Magliano, Andrew White, John Meagher, Kate Barron, Kathy Maniura, Michael Adakiri and The Lol Word take to the www.
