Award-winning Wakefield festival Long Division have announced its first wave of artists set to perform at this year’s event. The annual music and culture festival will take place 10th – 12th June 2022, with the majority of activity taking place on Saturdays multi-venue music festival.
Leading the announcement are returning LD headliners and critically acclaimed alternative indie six-piece Sea Power, who will come to Wakefield hot on the heels of the release of their upcoming album ’Everything Was Forever’ – due in February. Also announced today are Sunderland DIY innovators Field Music, who will return to Long Division for the first time since their incredible 2016 appearance at Unity Hall.
Joining them in Wakefield this June are Manchester dance-rock band, WH Lung, Leeds / York risers The Howl and The Hum, critically acclaimed Hull post-punks & BBC 6Music favourites Life and genre-splicing supergroup LYR. – featuring West Yorkshire icon and the UK’s Poet Laureate Simon Armitage among many others.
Committed as ever to championing new local music, Long Division are also pleased to add Leeds up and comers Venus Grrls, Mollie Coddled, Josephine Sillars, Team Picture, Household Dogs alongside Wakefield DIY stalwarts Mi Mye & ODAS with many more names yet to come.
The long running music & cultural event have also announced a new sustainability initiative as the team considers the environmental impact of the festival. From this year, 5% of all ticket sales will be ring-fenced into a pot with these funds used to both reduce and off-set Long Division’s impact with more details to be announced soon.
Alongside the main festival this year, Long Division Festival have also shared plans for a new event ‘Wakefield Live’. Scheduled to take place in September, Wakefield Live is a free entry one day event in small venues and spaces across the city with a focus on exciting and emerging artists from the area.
Long Division will be announcing more artists as well as a full weekend programme over the next few months.
