Purple Thread, are playing #360RAW on July 13th at the Lending Room in Leeds, TotalNtertainment was able to grab them for an interview ahead of their gig. Tickets for this can be bought from Skiddle, See Tickets, and Crash Records.

1. Could you introduce your band to our readers? And where can people hear your music?

Hi there, we’re Purple Thread, just a bunch of lost old school rock n rollers trying to find new and interesting ways to interpret rock music in the modern age. Welcome to the show! The best way to hear our music is live, but you can also check out our music on all the major platforms Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music, ITunes etc

2. Can you describe how you sound in just one sentence?

Dirty rock n roll music, with a punky, poppy, grungy, funky twist.

3. How did you get involved in the #360RAW night?

We’ve been playing 360 Club nights for Richard for aaaaages now! We’ve got to know him quite well over the years, and one day he reached out to us and asked us if we wanted to play this night! Of course, we said yes – we must be doing something right for him to put us on such a stellar line up, and it’s such a great opportunity to play for Alan Raw of BBC Introducing too! We feel very lucky and can’t wait to give it everything we’ve got!

4. What do you know about the other bands playing #360RAW4?

Although we’ve never seen Hands Off Gretel or Late Night Legacy live before, we’ve been checking them out a LOT and it’s safe to say it’s going to be an incredible night of music. We do know both bands are 100% ones to watch live so the audience is in for a treat …

5. What can people expect from your set?

More energy than it takes to get Neil Armstrong to the moon, funktastic basslines, thunderous drums, catchy lyrics, serious grooves, killer riffs, the odd splattering of poetry and a whole lot of fun …

6. What do you think of the Yorkshire music scene for bands, venues and fans?

There is such an excellent scene in Yorkshire for live music. Venues like Brudenell Social Club, Oporto and the Lending Room have genuinely become like second homes to us now, and because a lot of the bands are in the same boat, the camaraderie shared between a lot of the bands in the scene is incredible. There is a very real danger of music scenes becoming very cliquey, but Yorkshire seems to push past that and be a proper tight knit community, meaning the crowds are amazing. When it goes off, it goes off- big time!

7. Are there any new bands in Yorkshire that you think we should be checking out?

Definitely our pals in The Harriets and Bad Bug – check out Harry and Bad News as well if you get the chance. Also, we are big fans of Brooders, The Strawberries, Fizzy Blood, Allusondrugs and Muffin too …

8. Do you have any good / bad / messy local gig stories to tell?

We particularly remember playing Leeds University’s Summer Ball a couple of years back – first off, Annie Mac’s set clashed with ours, so the few people that were left seeing us were outrageously drunk absolutely flinging about Dave the inflatable dinosaur we’d brought to the gig [he saw some things …]. In the meantime, Liz lost her voice so was drinking whisky and honey on stage; Jack was singing the high notes; whilst Ryan snapped his stick in half during the quietest song. It was certainly an experience!

9. Curveball question – You wake up to find yourself on the moon; what is the first thing you do?

Our first gig on the moon? Of course, we’d have to cover Moonage Daydream – it would be rude not to! Maybe check into the Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino …

10. There are plenty of gigs going on this summer throughout Leeds and the north; why should someone come and see you at #360RAW4 on 13 July?

Well, we’ve recently had a review that says our music makes them unsure whether to dance or mosh but either way you have to move. Either way, we always make it a party whenever we’re on stage, and especially so as it’s James’ birthday on 13 July, so come down and join us and have a good ol’ knees up!
