Fresh from headlining three Liverpool shows in three different venues where they were joined by guests including Sophie from Luvcat, today, AKA, the new project of Liverpool based musician, producer and The Mysterines guitarist, Callum Thompson, releases new single “I’m Not The One You Need”.

“Holy Smokes!” A voice at the beginning of “I’m Not The One You Need” fittingly declares alongside an aching psych-rock guitar. Swaggering and infectious, it embodies AKA’s effortlessly cool sound. “I’m Not The One You Need is about being the wrong person at the right time,” says Callum. “The song lives somewhere between heartbreak, humour and complete irrationality.”

Filmed predominantly through a fisheye camera lens, the video for “I’m Not The One You Need” features wizards on motorcycles and an original newsreader. Fast-paced, fun with a DIY-edge, it captures the very sound and essence of the band.

Today’s release follows exhilarating debut single “It Grows On Trees (Money)” which was labelled as “bleary, fuzzed-out (and) melodic” by NME and “a sardonic indie burner” by Clash. An inclusion of the track on EA Sports FC 27 has seen the track hit 75,000 streams on Spotify in a little over two weeks. Second single “Control” possesses the same impregnable energy as all of AKA’s releases to date.

This month’s Liverpool residency follows a string of high energy live dates including: an in-store at Rough Trade East in partnership with Metropolis Studios, a raucous live set at The Great Escape, a sold out headline show at Liverpool’s iconic Quarry as well as sets at alternative indie Midi Festival in France alongside the likes of Little Grandad and Ulrika Spacek and more.

Live dates:
17th Oct – Neighbourhood Festival, Manchester
