Houston-born bilingual singer-songwriter Alaina Castillo has announced her forthcoming debut LP Parallel Universe Part 1 due out May 14 via AWAL. She just took the galactic-inspired stage in her award show debut at the 2021 Latin American Music Awards LIVE from Miami airing on Telemundo. With her signature hair and soothing vocals, Alaina shared her captivating rendition of Consuelo Velázquez’s love ballad “Bésame Mucho,” which is now available across all DSPs.

Alaina’s latest song “indica” arrived less than 3 weeks ago with a performance on Grammy.com’s Press Play series and a High Times premiere due to the creative cosmic spin on the forthcoming 4/20 holiday. The song immediately gained 35 Spotify New Music Fridays and 70+ Apple New Music Dailies. Just before that, she dropped “stfu (i got u)” around Valentine’s Day which got a YouTube Red Carpet launch, 33 New Music Friday playlists on release day plus a relationship Q+A with Alaina and her fans. With more than 140 million streams and press praise from Rolling Stone, NME, Independent, DIY and more, Alaina was named Billboard’s Latin Artist to Watch and clinched a spot on NME Essential Emerging Artist list.

Born in Houston to a tight knit religious family, the 21-year-old songstress was naturally drawn to music, art, and sports at an early age but kept her true passion for music under wraps as her parents’ wish was for her to focus on academia. Alaina sharpened her writing skills in both English and Spanish, gained notice by flipping popular English pop songs into Spanish, and eventually put her own music online. In just a few years, Alaina has built a Gen Z cult-like following on TikTok and YouTube, with 2 million and 1 million subscribers, respectively.

Alaina shows no signs of slowing down as we head into Parallel Universe Part 1 due out on May 14.
