As another full moon rises, the cosmic soul artist Aruba Red conjures the new song ‘Candle Magic’ – inspired in equal amounts by personal torment, alchemy, and the healing that follows.

Aruba Red casts a spell with ‘Candle Magic’. As the ethereal, mystical tone of her voice sways in unison with warm live instrumentation rooted in jazz, with a marching military beat and dub bass. All of which provides an engaging appeal to the alt-folk audience too.
Like her recent singles ‘Kalliope’ and ‘Lilac Glycerine’, ‘Candle Magic’ charts how spirituality helped Aruba Red overcome a gruelling family court case. And suddenly – within a matter of days of the events shared on this song – it was over.
As ‘Candle Magic’ so powerfully echoes, the ‘Latent Echo’ album is not just a comeback for Aruba Red, but a spiritual reawakening too. If you rewind her story, you find an artist whose talents have been heralded by creative forces as diverse as Nitin Sawhney, Riz Ahmedand Phil Manzanera.
But that rise staggered against an array of real life challenges, which included a decade-long abusive relationship. Losing her father and becoming a mother, She didn’t know what her future life would look like, even if a return with the ‘Live At St. Pancras Old Church’ album proved that her beguiling talents were as strong as ever.
What followed was struggles with endometriosis, POTS and chronic pain.
During recovery she committed to a project that would hit at her vulnerable heart while also pushing her creative boundaries to the limit. Teaming up with the Ivor Novello winner Renell Shaw and Camilo Tirado, she planned to create eight songs in just eight days during sessions in Somerset.
As it turned out, new creativity became the catharsis to find solace.
And those eight days also shaped her future. After today’s full moon (the Buck Moon) she will release new music on each full moon through to December (the Cold Moon).
In addition, she will launch ‘Latent Echo’ by playing the album in full for the first time with a special show at London’s World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens on October 14th. She will be joined by album collaborators Renell Shaw and Camilo Tirado.
