Rising rocker and multi-instrumentalist, carolesdaughter, who PAPER Magazine calls a “beacon to the misfits and alt kids” is back with a killer new single, “My Mother Wants Me Dead.”

A distinctly short track that’ll make you feel alive, “My Mother Wants Me Dead” and its accompanying lyric video officially drop today.

carolesdaughter is the stage name of 18-year-old Thea Taylor, who brilliantly fuses alt-pop anthems with lo-fi glitch, bedroom acoustics, and gutter goth glamour.

“‘My Mother Wants Me Dead’ is a lighthearted take on paranoia and drug induced psychosis, the title and hook couldn’t be more untrue, but that just goes to show how skewed perception can be,” says carolesdaughter.

Last year, carolesdaughter experienced viral success with her song “Violent,” which is notable for its somber beat laden with 808s and creaky acoustic guitar. The song quickly racked up two million streams on SoundCloud before it’s official release. To date, “Violent” has well over 300 million streams across all platforms. The song received support from Spotify and Apple Music, and internationally on Jack Saunders’ Next Wave program and Triple J. It landed at #2 on Spotify’s Global 50 chart and US Viral 50.

carolesdaughter’s recent release, “please put me in a medically induced coma” received support from key alternative playlists including Spotify’s New Punk Track, fuzzy; Apple Music’s new In Alternative, and Amazon’s Breakthrough Alternative. Consequence included the song in their best-of-the-week roundup and lauded carolesdaughter’s “confessional lyricism and provocative mall goth aesthetic,’ and called her “alternative music’s compelling new star.”

An outsider since birth, carolesdaughter grew up as one of 10 kids in a strict Mormon household. After seeing a tattoo of the iconic logo, she researched Black Flag online and unlocked the worlds of punk, hardcore, and goth. Bouncing between five different high schools, she started doing drugs, falling down a rabbit hole and taking multiple trips to rehab. On the last trip, she made a promise to pursue music. Now, with millions of streams independently and a deal with Arista Records, carolesdaughter has made a connection with droves of “misfits and alt kids” and turned them into raving fans.

Catch carolesdaughter on tour this autumn with Machine Gun Kelly in the US.
