Hotly-tipped Australian pop artist CXLOE releases her brand-new track titled ‘12 Steps’, alongside its official video, via Sandlot Recordings / AWAL. This week’s proceeds will be directly donated to UK Charity ‘Help to Heal’. Listen to ‘12 Steps’ here – https://cxloe.lnk.to/12stepsPR.

For her first release of 2020, CXLOE teamed up with a number of impressive pop music collaborators including Michael Pollack (Charli XCX), whom she wrote ‘12 Steps’ with, and producers Andrew Wells (Bebe Reha) and Futuristics (Selena Gomez). The result is a synth-filled track featuring a building bass line perfectly paired with CXLOE’s signature emotive vocals.

‘12 Steps’ carefully plays on the idea of recovery following addiction, with the title serving as a nod to the 12 step recovery programme. Of the track, CXLOE says: “Addiction runs in my family and I’ve always wanted to tell my story in a way that felt comfortable to me and those around me. The song mirrors the steps of the program through the eyes of a toxic relationship. I’ve spent time over the years becoming familiar with the program and think it is as important to treat unhealthy, toxic relationships with the same attention. Whether the addiction is to alcohol, food, shopping or a person, it all comes back to pain. And that’s something I can relate to. Seeking something or someone to mask pain.”

The first week of proceeds earned from ‘12 Steps’ will be donated directly to UK charity ‘Help to Heal’ – an online platform aimed to help people find the right kind of professional support, so they can confront personal issues.

Speaking on this, CXLOE says: “Addiction needs to be spoken about and not treated as a taboo topic. This song has been written from my experiences and I have the utmost respect for those battling addiction and thank those strong people in my life for letting me shine light on these topics.”

The official video for ‘12 Steps’, premiered by Complex UK, is also released today. The visual, shot in Melbourne, depicts a young woman facing her inner demons while on a night out with friends and features CXLOE herself. The video was directed and produced by Tia Thorne with cinematography by David Mckinnar and editing by Michael Ropbert.

CXLOE hails from Sydney’s Northern Beaches and has developed an impressive career in a short amount of timing –  amassing over 22 million streams worldwide, joining Maroon 5 on their Australian stadium tour and boasting writing credits with the likes of Sam Farrar (Maroon 5), The Futuristics (Selena Gomez), Justin Tranter (Julia Michaels) and Ross Golan (Ariana Grande). ‘12 Steps’ is the rising artist’s first release of the year, and with more music on the way shortly, CXLOE fans have reason to be excited
