David Keenan, the enigmatic Irish artist lauded by Hozier (“His voice stopped me dead in my tracks”) and Glen Hansard (“One of our best”), continues to defy categorization. His evocative songwriting, often compared to Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and literary giants like Beckett and Joyce, carries a distinct authenticity that sets him apart.
Today, June 6, 2025, Keenan releases his powerful new single ‘Amelioration’ listen here. The track offers a glimpse into his forthcoming fourth album, Modern Mythologies, set for release later this year. Rooted in Ireland’s rich storytelling tradition, the album reinterprets it through the lens of our turbulent modern world.
Keenan describes ‘Amelioration’ as a raw exploration of coexisting with others and the strain of maintaining relationships. “It sheds light on the difficulties of living or sharing space with another person,” he says. “It touches on the realities of drug and alcohol use and the mental side effects on a morning after where everything feels jarring and heightened.” The title, meaning to make something better, reflects the song’s aim to confront uncomfortable emotions and inspire a shift in perspective.
Following the single’s release, Keenan will perform headline shows at London’s Bush Hall on July 10th and The Ambassador Theatre in Dublin on July 12th. Tickets are available now for London HERE and Dublin HERE .
This release marks a dynamic period for Keenan. His bilingual documentary, Words on Canvas / Focla ar Chanbhás, offering an intimate look at his life, has already screened at film festivals across North America and Europe this year, with Irish and UK premieres forthcoming. Additionally, Keenan is the main composer for the feature film Salvable, starring Shia LaBeouf, currently out in the US via Lionsgate and awaiting global release.
‘Amelioration’ is available now on all major streaming platforms.
