Hot on the heels of playing two intimate sold out warm up shows last week, Enter Shikari have surprise-released their tender and sentimental new track, Lightyears.

Frontman Rou has said, “Last year I took it upon myself to digitalise all our old family camcorder footage. It was a surreal experience. Seeing the old family holidays, Christmases, school concerts, and birthdays; it was a cocktail of emotions. But what struck me most was the bizarre nature of watching back periods of my life that now seem so detached from reality now. Looking back on former versions of myself that no longer exist, people that have passed, places that have been knocked down – it was a form of nostalgia that veered on painful at times (or almost like ’vertigo’, as I say in verse two). Lightyears is not only me speaking to loved ones who are no longer with us, it’s also me speaking to my former self. Seeing the innocence and fragility of who you were as a child is often something recommended in psychotherapy in order to recalibrate how you treat yourself now. It can quieten what can often be a relentlessly critical and mean inner voice. This felt like a literal and stark version of that.” Listen here.

Enter Shikari returned with single HIGHER GROUND earlier this month, following the announcement of their indefinite hiatus. The four-piece took to Instagram and shared this statement regarding the future of Enter Shikari. The band also recently revealed a very special video session, Live From The Golden Age. The four tracks which include HIGHER GROUND (receiving its first live airing), were directed by Tom Pullen and the audio was recorded and mixed by George Perks.

Enter Shikari are gearing up for their biggest UK and EU headline arena tour, next week. The EU dates kick off on 3rd November at the Sporthalle in Hamburg, and include the band’s biggest ever German headline show, at Düsseldorf’s Mitsubishi Halle, boasting a capacity of 7500. They will then begin the UK leg of the tour in Nottingham at the Motorpoint Arena on 13th November. Gigs in cities including Cardiff, Hull, Glasgow and Manchester will follow, before ending with not one but two shows at London’s Alexandra Palace on 20th and also 21st November, which is now sold out! They will be joined by Holding Absence and The Callous Daoboys as support for both the EU and UK leg. All dates, information and tickets for all live dates can be found here.
