Fences share new lyric video for ‘A Mission’

A Mission’ takes a deep dive into the depths of a drinker and the path that he walks.

Seattle native FENCES, the alter-ego of musician/songwriter Christopher Mansfield will be releasing the Deluxe version of his 3rd album ‘Failure Sculptures’ on March 5th 2021 via ENCI.  Pre-order the album HERE. Perhaps most well-known for his collaborations with Tegan and Sara (who produced his 2010 self-titled debut album) and Macklemore (who he’s teamed up with on various tracks), ‘Failure Sculptures’ will be his first new LP since 2015’s ‘Lesser Oceans’

First single ‘A Mission’ takes a deep dive into the depths of a drinker and the path that he walks. Premiered by American Songwriter yesterday you can watch a new lyric video  HERE or watch the cinematic video HERE.

Mansfield says, ” In 1959 Jack Kerouac appeared on The Steve Allen show. In the interview he said it took him 3 weeks to write “On The Road” but was on the road for 7 years. Nearly 60 years later this hit me. Life is long and art is short. It gave me a sense of relief in the fact it takes me some time to release new music. I can’t write what I haven’t seen with my own eyes. Most days I would trade this obsession with normalcy and happiness but paint can be toxic and paintings so beautiful. I headed up to Portland to meet Cheyenne, an artist and a large part of this story. We had a bond in our dreams and even nightmares. Hawk filming, slow-motion sage smoke and found footage. He the director and me an admirer. “A Mission” is the opening track of Failure Sculptures and the first video that was made. Our minds brothers, and our eyes projectors”
