Idris Elba joined Australian band Lime Cordiale onstage at London’s Electric Ballroom last night to perform tracks from their collaborative EP Cordi Elba. Fronted by brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, Lime Cordiale are midway through a 14 date UK & Ireland tour and were playing the second of 2 sold out nights in the capital’s iconic venue.

They welcomed actor, musician and DJ Idris Elba to the stage for a first ever UK performance of tracks ‘Unnecessary Things‘ ‘Apple Crumble‘ and ‘What’s Not To Like‘ from the 6 track project, which they recorded while Elba was filming in Australia and was released earlier this year.

Walking onstage for the band’s encore, Elba told the crowd: “I know what you’re thinking. ‘What the hell is Idris Elba doing up there right now’. And as I was walking out I was thinking the very same thing.

“About a year ago I was in Australia making a film out there with George Miller and while I was there someone invited me to meet Lime Cordiale. They asked me do you want to go to the studio and meet with lime cordiale, I was like ‘hell yeah, of course I do!’”

“It’s great to see you guys, it’s the first time I’ve ever sung any of these songs live, I’m really nervous but so happy to be here with all of you.”

Lime Cordiale have enjoyed a swift rise to stardom, winning Breakthrough Act at the 2020 ARIAS for their #1 album 14 Steps To A Better You, which also saw them break the record for most tracks in Triple J’s Hot 100 list. One of Australia’s most in demand live acts and winners of Best Live Act at last year’s ARIAS, they visit Nottingham, Belfast, Dublin and Brighton later this month – more info & tickets available here. New single ‘Country Club‘, a jaunty take on the dangers of privilege, is out now.
