One of the UK’s most exciting rising stars, Kay Greyson, has delivered an infectious laid back rap gem in ‘VAIN”- her fifth release on Soul Kitchen Recordings.

Stripped back and allowing Kay’s irresistible spoken word to step to the fore, ‘Vain’ follows the Jack Saunders and Amazing Radio supported ‘Slow Song’ as the second track to feature on Kay’s forthcoming mixtape : Chekov’s Gun. Listen to ‘VAIN’ HERE & watch the video HERE.

“‘Vain’ is a song about realising your worth,” Kay said of the track. “Accepting how far you’ve come as a triumph and overall knowing that the negative things people have to say don’t make you who you are.”

The release follows her feel-good anthem ‘Over and Over’, as well as Kay’s collaboration with the Voices of Virtue and Howard Gospel Choirs on their cover of Stevie Wonder’s, ‘Heaven Help Us All’. The track was released in celebration of the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King receiving an honorary degree in Civil Law from Newcastle University on November 13th 1967. With all proceeds going to the ‘Songs of Freedom’ education programme which aims, in the words of Stevie Wonder, to “bring everyone together, no matter their race, religion (or) colour”, Kay cements herself as a leading voice in Newcastle in the continued fight for equality.

Rapping and performing since she was a teenager, 22 year-old Kay has gained a reputation in Newcastle as one of the hardest working artists there is. Her sound fuses the flair and style of modern hip-hop with the skill and sensibilities of the golden era, hitting with the vibe of Lil Uzi Vert and the substance of Mos Def. Having already supported hip-hop legends like The Game, KRS One, DJ Yella and Akala, to name but a few, Kay continues to create her own legend.

Kay’s exuberant live performances, including one at The Royal Albert Hall for the MYF Youth Proms, another at BBC Introducing Live in London, a packed out performance at Hit The North music festival and a string of top-drawer singles earned her the award of Newcomer of the Year at the 2019 Journal Culture Awards. ‘Vain is her fifth release on Soul Kitchen Recordings (Jake Bugg, L Devine) and follows previous releases ‘Slow Song’,  ‘Paris’, ‘Over and Over’ and the fashion victim expose ‘Out of Time’.
