Every new release from Katy For Kings finds the 20-year-old winning new admirers for her whole-hearted, pop-focused  songwriting. She raised her game earlier this year with ‘City’, before ‘Impersonator’ became a tastemaker tip, earning Track of the Day from Clash and an introductory profile from Clout. That trend continues as she today shares her new single ‘Middle Ground’. LISTEN HERE.

Straddling mainstream pop and the acoustic singer-songwriter tradition, ‘Middle Ground’ is the kind of instantly memorable, highly accomplished songwriting that would be equally at home on daytime radio as it would be soundtracking a teen Netflix drama. Her voice also grows with every release – and it’s one deservedly destined to reach a far wider audience.

Katy says, “For me, ‘Middle Ground’ represents the feeling of uncertainty around what people’s intentions are with you. It’s about feeling lonely in a crowded room, and the fear of being dropped as soon as something better comes along. It’s not knowing your worth whilst not trusting that things in your life aren’t just down to chance.”

As with ‘Impersonator’ and ‘City’, Katy wrote ‘Middle Ground’ on acoustic guitar with Chris Bourne (5 Seconds of Summer), with production courtesy of John Fields (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus).

All of Katy For King’s tracks to date have been collated in the modestly titled Spotify playlist i guess i have enough songs for this now. Her other playlists on the platform explore her influences in much more detail, spanning modern pop (Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes), contemporary country (Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves) and the all-time greats (Carole King, Joni Mitchell).
