New Leeds-based project Mini Disc stems from a need for nostalgia driven indie and a shared hatred of corporate life.

Formed in early 2026, four friends decided the best coping mechanism for modernity was to pour their feelings into heart wrenching lyrics and moody soundscapes.

Their debut single ‘Whale Song’, both cinematic and yearning, describes finding a life partner; a slow build from kind words and physical touch to a final, desperate plea for eternity together.
Their signature sound has retro inspired vocals combine with cavernous guitar, grooving bass and erratic drums for a pensive atmosphere, capturing the realisation of what it is to be loved, and what it could be to be without.

Having recently played a sold-out show at the Key Club, the band are set to showcase ‘Whale Song’ again on 22 October 2026 at Oporto, supporting Gia Ford, and on 29 October 2026 at the Lending Room.

Aaron | lyricist and drummer: “The lyrics took six months to write, written in the quiet hours while overthinking, whereas the music flowed naturally from one single practice session. Just as whales sing to draw in a mate and bond, Whale Song describes the emotion of finding a life partner, from initial touch to a final realisation of what life would be like without that person. It means a lot and it’s the first song we can say we are fully proud of.”

James | guitarist: “I was feeling pretty low one evening and picked up my guitar without really knowing where it was going to take me. The first thing that came out were the swells you hear in the prelude, and they seemed to capture exactly how I was feeling in that moment. From there, the melody started to take shape, and once the idea was brought to the band, everything fell into place naturally. By the end of that first practice session, we had the entire instrumental worked out. It was exciting to hear such a spontaneous idea develop into something that felt distinctly like us, and become the foundation for the song.”
