Dream pop duo Moon Panda today release their latest single ‘Machina Sky’, taken from their upcoming sophomore album Sing Spaceship, Sing!, out 21st July. The new music comes in the wake of previous single ‘Starfruit’ spending a fourth week on BBC Radio 6 Music’s playlists.

With its swirling tones, indie, trip-hop, alt-pop and dream pop influences ‘Machina Sky’ personifies the hedonistic rush of young love – driving through life without caution or fear. Speaking about the  track, lead singer and bassist Maddy Myers says:

“The line that led to Machina Sky being what it is started out as, “Riding past the street lamps till they’re liquid streams of light / And the world I knew / Is a mark in the sky” but then everyone thought I was singing ,”is a Machina sky” and I loved how changing those words made the song way more futuristic and called out how every time you look at the sky now you see something man made hurtling through the atmosphere and beyond. Pretty wild stuff if you think about it! It reminds me of childhood and those intense ride or die relationships that consist of walking through life like a dream.”

Composed of Californian vocalist/bassist Maddy Myers and Danish guitarist Gustav Moltke, Moon Panda signed to legendary British label Fierce Panda for their second EP Make Well in 2020. The release earned critical acclaim for its luscious, blissed out vibes across grooving bass lines with BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne declaring ‘Slow Drive’ her “favourite track of the year so far…top of the pile for me.”

Inspired by feelings of joy and human connection as the world returned from the grip of the pandemic, Sing Spaceship, Sing! is full of experimentation, oozing an infectious energy that strikes harder with each listen. Unlike the soothing insularity of their 2022 lockdown-influenced debut What On Earth, which saw support from the likes of Lauren Laverne, MOJO, The Independent, Loud & Quiet and The Line of Best Fit, the new record has an outward-looking sense of community at its core. This is reflected by a recording process that saw Californian vocalist/bassist Myers and Danish guitarist Gustav Moltke joined by their live drummer Josh Cabitac and keyboard player George Godwin in the sunny San Francisco-based writing & recording process, alongside influential producer Adam Thein.
