Mancunian future-pop four piece – narcissus  – will be making a long overdue and emotional return to the live stage this May. Making an exclusive headline performance at Retros Music Bar in Northwich on the 19th May 2018, the band will perform as part of The Charlatans NxNW Festival Fringe, which takes over the North West town for ten days this month.

With an ear for a futuristic sound palette and a knack for epic and anthemic songwriting, narcissus burst onto the scene in the mid-noughties.

Bringing the house down night after night with a series of seismic sets around the North West, not to mention their landmark performance at the D-percussion Festival /Band on the Wall double header, the band effortlessly found themselves making the right kind of noise to stoke fervent industry attention. Snapped-up almost instantaneously by the coveted Northern Ambition label (responsible for much of Stephen Fretwell’s early output), the band were given the opportunity to wrestle their genre-bending sound onto record for the first time. The result would be the sky-scraping debut EP ‘The Window’ which was championed by of the likes of the Manchester Evening News as a record of “”well-honed, well-crafted electronica”.

Yet much like their namesake, it seems narcissus’ fate would also be doomed to burn brightly and all too quickly. A collapse of the band’s publishing deal during the recording process of their debut album would result in the finished article being shelved before a release date could ever be set. As such, the band inevitably split and would go on to perform in other bands such as The Synthetics and Signals. However, after a time of reflection – 10 years in fact – and a twist of fate, narcissus would rise again from the ashes. After two of the band member’s current partners coincidently found themselves sharing an office and shooting the breeze, the pair hatched plans to encourage narcissus to finish what they had started. Rising to the challenge, the four piece assembled, dusted themselves down and performed together for the first time in a long time – and with staggering results. Finding that their original chemistry was still very much alive and well, they decided they would revisit the songs they had begun all those years ago. To their delight and amazement, the the bristling inventiveness and sheer quality of songwriting of those tracks penned during their formative years and the music had preserved them like a time-capsule. Putting the finishing touches to a record over a decade after it was initially recorded, with a huge sense of elation, narcissus will finally release their debut album ’A Sense Of Place’ in 2018. Watch this space…narcissus will make an emotion return to the live stage as they join the festivities of The Charlatans homecoming festival. Support comes from Ryan Jarvis.
