The chart-topping, Ivor Novello winner Passenger releases his new album ‘Wild Love’ (out November 6th) is his most personal to date, a record that tells the story of his recent marriage and fatherhood via a collection of soul-searching, emotionally-exposed songs. Those qualities are particularly poignant as he today shares its latest single, ‘Ghosts’, alongside its official video. Listen HERE.
The closing song on the ‘Wild Love’ album, ‘Ghosts’ is an evocative soundscape of brooding atmospherics, from the gentle wail of its slide guitar to its sparse yet expressive piano. Passenger’s whispered voice strikes at the heart of the realisation that you have to fully let go before you can move on towards the future – some ghosts need to be exorcised.
Passenger – aka Mike Rosenberg – says, “‘Ghosts’ is the final song on the album and is a really special one for me. It depicts the very end of a relationship, the last breaths of it, the bruising that it leaves, the understanding that until you let go of it you won’t be able to fully embrace anything new; but still a part of you hangs on to it for dear life. Although I’ve been through this myself, I actually wrote this for my partner which in a weird way makes me feel it more intensely.”
‘Ghosts’ is accompanied by a video of similarly simple, serene beauty that was filmed in Cornwall and was directed by Nic Minns. The video today receives a massive launch as it features on YouTube’s famous digital billboard in Leicester Square, London.
Passenger adds, “There was so much luck and chance in the making of this video. Heaving a piano all the way down to Cornwall and on to the beach proved challenging to say the least. It all came together beautifully in the end and I’m so thrilled with the location that we found, which again was by a very happy accident. I wanted to keep the video really simple to let the song breathe . I absolutely love how it came out. The colours and the ripples and reflections are really magical and fit the mood of the song perfectly.”
‘Wild Love’ is available to pre-order / pre-save HERE. In addition to its digital release, stunning physical formats include a gatefold coloured vinyl in two exclusive colours, a natural and a white vinyl available from select indie stores, and a Deluxe hardcover book CD.
