Reverend And The Makers today unveil new single ‘Problems’. The song is the third offering from their forthcoming studio album ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, out 28th April 2023 on Distiller Music. Listen here. Digital album available to pre order now here.

The latest track from Reverend And The Makers is a typically catchy ear-worm. The rejuvenated Sheffield stalwarts effortlessly combine elements of Pop, R’n’B and Soul in a way now synonymous with the band’s most recent output. The rhythmic, blissed out, head nodding tone of the single, belies the  heavier, underlying message of the track. Focusing on the subject of mental health problems, it brings The Rev John McClure’s idiosyncratically positive and acerbic spin to matters in a way that celebrates the escape and relief you can feel when fully immerse yourself in something to “forget your own s**t for a minute.”

Speaking on the track, Rev said “I have been super open about mental health in the past. I am a huge advocate for men talking and still am, but sometimes I have found just watching a footy match by myself can be equally therapeutic. So I wanted to write a kinda funny song about how it feels when you finally get to be alone for 5 minutes….”

This latest single announcement comes hot on the tail of the success of the band’s recent single ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’. A hazy, sun drenched Barry White-inspired soul bop, the opening single from forthcoming album of the same name has become their biggest hit in over a decade, having been added to Radio 2’s B list and being named their Record of the Week. The track became a Top 10 UK airplay chart fixture as the summer came to a close. This was followed by the softly spangled psychedelic soul of ‘High’. An ode to Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfrield and long hazy afternoons.

Building on a revitalised live reputation that has restored them as one of festival season’s key draws in the last few years, Reverend and the Makers first tour of the UK in four years kicks off next week. The shows will run from 2nd February until 17th February 2023. The tour will hit venues in Brighton (sold out), Northampton, Cardiff, Norwich, Liverpool, Birmingham (sold out), Bristol, London (sold out), Glasgow (sold out), Newcastle & Manchester before concluding with a sold out homecoming show in Sheffield on February 17th. A second Sheffield date has now been added due to demand (sold out). Support for the tour will come from Supergrass man Danny Goffey and Bristol-based rock act The Ramona Flowers. Tickets here.
