Following the release of the debut album from Samuel Jack ‘The Gold & The Glory’ last month, Samuel now shares the stripped back moving official video for the album’s title track. Filmed in black and white, in a studio with just a mic – it displays Samuel’s raw emotion, passion and impressive vocal range; sometimes soaring, sometimes gritty but always affecting in his ability to bring emotions to life. Watch the official video HERE.
Samuel explains, “The Gold & The Glory is a song about understanding that sometimes the best things in life are right in front of you. It’s that black and white. As is the video. I wanted to capture the raw emotion of the song with a simple video of me singing it, the only way I know how.”
Album highlights included the album opening track ‘Borderline’, ‘Sun Goes Down’ ‘Those Days’ and the intensely personal and reflective song ‘Chat Dad’. Accompanied by an official video (watch HERE), ‘Chat Dad’ sees Samuel open up his emotions for the world to hear: the longing and the loneliness that comes with grief, the life-long shared love overpowering the rare moments of conflict that come within any relationship.
‘The Gold & The Glory’ finds Samuel Jack reflecting upon memorable moments – both good and bad – in his life. Other highlights including the lovelorn ‘Amsterdam’, the dramatic, gospel-flavoured ‘Home To You’, the funk-meets-hip-hop flow of ‘Ruin Myself’. Throughout, Samuel’s songs explore universal experiences from a personal perspective: relationships that fade before others blossom; the passing of his father; and persevering to conquer your own self-doubts. Set to a soundtrack that very naturally merges singer-songwriter reflection, immediate pop, soulful flourishes and a little blues and hip-hop, Samuel has created a debut body of work which can engage fans on multiple levels.
A UK singer-songwriter who spent much of his childhood in Johannesburg, Samuel Jack’s first official releases came in 2016 before deepening his artists with three ‘Empty Pockets Crowded Hearts’ EPs. His breakthrough moment came unexpectedly in the middle of lockdown when his track ‘Feels Like Summer’, released a year earlier, became one of the first songs to go viral with TikTok leading to over 50 million streams. Since then, Samuel has gone from strength-to-strength, with much more to come.
