Following the announcement of her much anticipated debut Heirloom in May, rising London singer-songwriter NUUXS today unveils its second offering ‘SPF’, out now via Goldun Egg/Absolute.

Hot on the heels of the album’s first single ‘Sun God’, ‘SPF’ is an energetic and joyful ode to unrestrained passion. Produced by Goldun Egg label boss Jake Gosling (Major Lazer, Ed Sheeran), its disco pop euphoria is framed in dreamlike shimmering sonics, interlaced with spliced vocals and deep bass grooves that sweep you to an imaginary dancefloor.

“This is the last song I wrote on the album and an unexpected one right at the end of the whole process. I was feeling excited about where I had arrived with the album project ‘Heirloom’ and it just sort of happened, the way love happens. You don’t know when it’s going to come but it does. This song is about giving love out the way the sun will give out its rays and burn you up if you don’t protect yourself with SPF. I used this as a fun metaphor by not wanting SPF. I want to give and receive all the love that comes in a relationship, this focuses on the highs and the fierce passion that comes with loving someone even if it does consume and burn me up,” NUUXS explains.

The news of her first album follows a stream of acclaimed EPs from the French-born, London-based singer, culminating in 2019’s Red Tape Mixtape, which garnered widespread tastemaker support from the likes of Annie Mac, CLASH, tmrw, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Introducing and Mahogany.

A deeply personal writer and performer, NUUXS’ music is closely intertwined with her experiences. Raised in a cult, where she was cut off from wider culture, her musical awakening began at school, forming an indie band and writing hooks for local grime artists – a snapshot of some of the wide-ranging sounds that inform her unique brand of alt-pop. A beguiling, yet liberating set of alternative pop, cut with darkness and introspection, Heirloom sees NUUXS primed to establish herself as one of the UK’s most intriguing and vital breakthrough artists.
