Irish pop rock band The Coronas release their new single ‘Light Me Up’ on July 17th 2020, the latest song to be revealed from their hotly anticipated new album ‘True Love Waits’, released on 31st July. The single follows the critically acclaimed duet with Gabrielle Aplin, ‘Lost In the Thick Of It’, and comes amidst the news that all their concerts in 2020 outside of Ireland are to be rescheduled to next year (new dates TBC).

‘Light Me Up’ is the perfect end note in a series of vibrant singles, and sets the pace for the album release with its euphoric and celebratory atmosphere. Communicating the importance of togetherness, ‘Light Me Up’ feels ever-more relevant in the current climate of forced human distancing; frontman Danny O’Reilly says of the track “For me, ‘Light Me Up’ is about the having someone in your life that knows the real you. I think everyone has moments of self-doubt in certain aspects of their lives, but having someone you can truly be yourself around and just feel accepted and appreciated despite whatever flaws you may have is extremely comforting.”

The Coronas’ thirteen-year journey has definitely been unique. With a handful of multi-platinum selling albums and a huge fanbase in their native Ireland, the band were just about to embark on a 6-month world tour when a certain unfortunately named virus tried to spoil the party. Thankfully, the band are back with the new album, and a point to prove.

Unfortunate monikers aside, ‘True Love Waits’ – the follow-up to 2017’s No.1 album ‘Trust The Wire’ – marks the start of what is now more than a new chapter in the career of one of Ireland’s biggest, best-loved bands, it’s more like a whole new book. A quartet for 13 years, last summer The Coronas became a trio when guitarist Dave McPhillips unexpectedly left. Briefly they questioned whether to continue but, once the shock had subsided, something dawned on the Dubliners. If they weren’t the band they used to be, why make music as they always had?
