Tide Lines today release their eagerly anticipated new album ‘An Ocean Full of Islands’ featuring the Radio 2 playlisted single ‘Written In The Scars’, plus ‘These Days’ and ‘Rivers in the Light’. Next week they embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland, which includes a long sold-out show at Edinburgh’s 2800-capacity Usher Hall, as well as their biggest London gig to date at the Electric Ballroom. Also confirmed as headliners at The Gathering Festival, Tide Lines recently announced their biggest ever headline show, a 6,000-capacity big top festival-style show at Glasgow’s Queen’s Park.
Collectively, ‘An Ocean Full Of Islands’ is equally informed by the towering melodic peaks and rousing choruses of rock as it is by the band’s folk heart, with further colour provided with flashes of alt-pop production. Those three elements converge to create a synthesis of three sounds that are rarely unified. And in Robert Robertson, the band possesses a frontman whose voice prospers in whatever context they explore, his rich tone able to reach soaring, soulful highs.
He says, “‘An Ocean Full Of Islands’ is bigger in terms of the sound. Every track, as I sat down to write it, I thought: I really want this to be the next single. There are still highs and lows – but there are a lot more highs!”
Having narrowly missed the Top 10 with their previous record ‘Eye of the Storm’ and established a dedicated following in the live arena, Tide Lines now look to step up another level with a collection of songs that are infused with rousing hooks, spine-tingling emotions and widespread, expansive ambition. It achieves all of that without losing sight of their roots, with the album recorded in their studio and rehearsal space in a former Baptist church on the Isle of Mull. The band’s keyboardist Ross Wilson led the record’s production process.
