Tom Odell shares ‘Flying :))’, an elegant and mellow track. It’s accompanied by an animated music video created by director Manshen Lo (Sally Rooney), who also created the official video for recent tracks ‘Best Day Of My Life’ and ‘Sad Anymore’.
Having fulfilled his major label record deal in 2021, Tom began to look ahead to a new era, a new way of working, and embarked on an independent new chapter of his acclaimed career that sees him reclaiming control and taking back the reins of his artistry.
‘Flying :))’ is the third instalment of his new musical journey, where the simple beauty in just Tom’s voice and a piano alone gracefully expresses the deep emotions of despair and sadness.
When speaking about the new music, Tom said the inspiration and subject matter came around unintentionally and, after reading a quote from the super-producer Rick Rubin about the importance of applying rules to yourself, he decided to strip it back and record with just a piano and his voice. The resulting tracks are works of minimalist beauty, comprising just Tom’s voice, a piano and the occasional creak of a stool.
The single’s release follows the success of Tom Odell’s debut single of this new era, ‘Best Day Of My Life’. Since its release, Tom has been an emotive figurehead as he played ITV’s Concert For Ukraine, which saw musicians raise over £13.4 million for the DEC Ukraine Appeal. In addition, Tom joined forces with GRAMMY award winning producer Tiësto for a stunning remix of his 2012 hit single ‘Another Love’, with all proceeds going to Choose Love.
Tom recently completed a US and EU tour, performing to sold out venues in cities worldwide. He tours Europ again this September and October, with tickets available here.
