Vevo announces the release of Labrinth’s live performance of “Mount Everest.” Labrinth’s story begins in Hackney, where Timothy Lee McKenzie was born into a large family steeped in music and religion. Gospel music was the family business and it provided his early (and only) musical education before his older brothers introduced him to secular music.

Only a few short years later after discovering hip-hop, pop and dance music, Labrinth was top of the charts as producer and co-writer or tinie Tempah’s breakout single “Pass Out.” In 2012, he released his first solo album, Electronic Earth, that put four singles onto the UK Top Ten, and the US Top 40 hit “Beneath Your Beautiful.” Labrinth didn’t stop pushing himself to refine his craft, writing and producing for pop royalty like Rihanna, Ed Sheeran and the Weeknd while absorbing influences ranging from ELO to Nina Simone. He has since released a joint album with Sia and Diplo titled LSD, as well as released his 2019 effort, Imagination & the Misfit Kid. 2019 also saw Labrinth score the soundtrack to HBO’s critically acclaimed series Euphoria, which included “Mount Everest.”

“Mount Everest,” according to Labrinth, “is dedicated to achieving everything and realizing it means nothing.” He further explains that: “You hope that gloating would validate the time you spent accumulating all these meaningless things. But behind the cracks of the mask you hold up is someone that realizes the truth and wishes to be free. You say all these things like you believe them, hoping they could quiet the truthful noise in your mind. And then you finally realize… that all the things you left behind to be at the top of the world were available to you at the beginning. And thus the death of the old you begins.”

“Mount Everest” is now streaming on all platforms. Keep up with exclusive content from artists all over the world on YouTube.com/Vevo.
