The next generation of Voguers are being given the chance to show off their moves as part of the first ever Vogue Festival weekend this autumn.

Performers aged 16 and under will join professional dancers from House of Suarez in Elements of Vogue at The Black-E on Fri 19 October.

The popular annual event forms the opening night of the new House of Suarez: Three Day Bender and has moved location from the Bluecoat to the larger Black-E in Great George Street.

Up to 70 young people are expected to take part in next month’s event which shines a light on the talent of the future. It features local and national performers, as well as professional artists, fusing vogue, commercial and contemporary dance styles and paving the way for the excitement of the whole weekend.

House of Suarez are the creative minds behind Liverpool’s multi-award winning and highly distinguished Vogue Ball.

Elements of Vogue is part of a full weekend of glamour from Fri 19 – Sun 21 October when film, fashion and fierce voguing all combine as the dance company present a fabulous programme of events over a spectacular Three-Day Bender, in the first of its kind Vogue Festival.

As ever expect fantastical costumes, outrageous performances and technical excellence in vogue dance, all drawing on the imagery and imagination of toys.

Following Elements of Vogue, Sat 20 October sees the return of the hedonistic annual Vogue Ball, taking place at The Invisible Wind Factory.

An ingenious creation celebrating elaborate style and alternative cultures, audiences will be taken aback as they witness both veteran and brand new local, regional and international Houses come together for the ultimate battle in vogue supremacy.

Also forming part of the festival is stunning fashion exhibition, shown exclusively at the waterfront Museum of Liverpool.

It features a collection of some of the most creative and beautiful costume commissions to ever grace the runway at past Vogue Ball’s and feature in world premiere dance performances, and forms part of the ongoing Tales from the City exhibition of Liverpool’s historic LGBT+ culture.

Closing the festival, House of Suarez will present the Unlimited House of Krip documentary at Fredericks Bar, located on Hope Street, on Sun 21 October.

The screening will be followed by an exclusive Q&A with festival director Darren Suarez, who will talk about the work of the company and their aspirations for the future presented alongside live performances.

Speaking about Elements of Vogue, House of Suarez Artistic Director Darren Suarez said: “It’s a platform that celebrates the culture of vogue.

“The Vogue Ball is an 18-rated event, so Elements of Vogue is a chance for those aged 16 and under to show off what they can do, and over a period of time many of them go on to the big ball itself.

“We’ve had kids as young as six or seven take part – it’s pretty cool. We get a lot of interest from all over the place. This year that’s even included a school in the Lake District.

“Elements of Vogue is an hour-long programme and in 2018 it shares the Toy Box theme. There will be certain shared themes from the ball that are suitable for that age group, so it’s also a chance to get a sneak peek at what you can expect in the main Vogue Ball itself.”
