London-based duo Zoe Konez and Sarah Smith AKA CATBEAR have been making music together since 2018 and are based in South London, UK, where they write, record and produce their music from Zoe’s home studio and release it independently.
Having played their first show of 2023 with ARXX at Paper Dress Vintage, London, CATBEAR hit the road recently for a UK tour opening for The Subways.
Ahead of the tour, the duo kickstarted 2023 with the release of their new single “I Choose Love”. Described as an ethereal dreampop sapphic anthem celebrating queer love and fighting to live as your true self – the pair brought a feel good New Year message for all. The track mixes nostalgic and warm analogue synths with dreamy guitars, assured female vocals and pulsating bassline.
One of their most personal tracks to date, Zoe said “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lost in the challenges of being an individual in today’s world – even just walking out of your door can feel like you need to put your armour on to prepare for judgement, whether at work, on the bus or at the supermarket. ‘I Choose Love’ is your armour for a message of defiance, of confidence to be yourself, and a reminder to treat everyone as equals.”
