Last night, Teddy Swims delivered a sold-out powerhouse performance at Scarborough Open Air Theatre, kicking off the first of two nights at the TK Maxx presents summer concert series.
Accompanied by his band Freak Freely and with support from Jordan Rakei, the Grammy-nominated artist treated thousands of fans to a dynamic 90-minute set featuring more than 20 songs. He opened with tracks including “The Door,” “Hammer To The Heart,” and “Are You Even Real,” powering through highlights such as “Bed On Fire,” “Bad Dreams,” and “Funeral” before closing with his global multi-platinum hit “Lose Control.” The energetic outdoor show showcased his impressive vocal range and stage presence, ending with Swims thanking the Scarborough crowd warmly.
Teddy Swims, born Jaten Collin Dimsdale on September 25, 1992, in Conyers, Georgia, is an American singer-songwriter celebrated for blending R&B, soul, hip-hop, country, and pop. Raised in a football-oriented family near Atlanta, he played the sport in high school before turning to musical theatre. His father introduced him to soul classics by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Al Green, while his Pentecostal pastor grandfather instilled a strong sense of purpose. These roots, combined with influences like India.Arie and Frank Ocean, fuel his emotive style.
Swims first rose to attention posting diverse cover videos on YouTube from 2019, covering artists from Lewis Capaldi and George Michael to Shania Twain. Warner Records signed him in 2020 after the videos gained traction. Early releases included EPs like Unlearning (2021) and Tough Love (2022), the latter marking his Billboard 200 debut.
His major breakthrough came in 2023 with “Lose Control,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100. It anchored the debut album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1), followed by Part 2 in 2025. The project reflects his candid approach to personal growth, relationships, and mental health through music. His stage name draws from a longtime nickname and an earlier creative concept highlighting different facets of his personality.
Now a global touring artist with record-breaking songs and sold-out shows, Teddy Swims continues to connect with audiences through raw, versatile performances, as evidenced by last night’s memorable night on the Yorkshire coast.
