Fiction Records is thrilled to announce the signing of AKA: the new project of Liverpool based musician, producer and The Mysterines guitarist, Callum Thompson. Blending character-driven songwriting with quirky sample led soundscapes, the project marks a fresh musical direction for Callum and reflects an unconventional approach.
Today, AKA releases his exhilarating debut single, “It Grows On Trees (Money)”. Irresistibly grungy with a petulant punk edge, the track was produced and written by AKA. “It’s a song about the surreal becoming real,” says Callum. “It’s about finding yourself when you stop looking. It looks at how identity evolves in the modern media age – and the sense that certainty only exists in doubt.”
The single arrives alongside a video directed by Charles Gall (English Teacher, Sports Team, Sigrid); fun, chaotic and jovial, it features a dog chase on skateboards (literally).

Last Thursday, to celebrate Record Store Day 2026, AKA performed live in-store at Rough Trade East. The set was bookended with DJ sets from Soho Radio’s Georgie Rogers. The performance was recorded Live to Tape, cut to lacquer at Metropolis Studios, and pressed into an exclusive limited run of vinyl for ticket holders.
Following a show at The Social in January as part of Communion Club night, AKA’s next live show is at The Great Escape next month. Watch this space for new music and live dates soon.
Live dates:
15th May – The Great Escape, Brighton, UK
24th July – Midi Festival, Hyères, FR
