After a summer experiencing a number of breakthrough moments – the Beautiful Days Festival, support from BBC Introducing, Notion, FAULT, This Feeling, and a rammed pop-up London show at the relaunched Barfly – Essex indie-rock risers Black Lounge now showcase a different element to their sound with the new single ‘Taxi’ ahead of the release of their debut EP. Listen HERE.

‘Taxi’ sees Black Lounge stepping into autumnal melancholy, with jangly acoustic indie-pop fuelled by a melody that’s instantly unforgettable – the reason why it has already been so anticipated by fans following teasers on socials. The song’s story is a day-in-the-life experience of a regrettable young adulthood experience – turning up to see a girl when you’re clearly not welcome. And as the song unfolds, it’s clear there’s no coming back from such a spectacular misjudgement.

As with the rest of their recent singles – ‘Welcome Home’, ‘Roommate’ and ‘Sake of a Laugh’ – the new single was recorded at RAK Studios with renowned Coldplay producer Danton Supple.

George Grant had launched Black Lounge independently, but 2026 represented a rebirth for the band – one that realises their early potential and that can elevate them to much bigger stages. Key to this was a new line-up, bringing in Ben Gulik (lead guitar), James Ladds (bass) and Jack Cassidy (drums), while a deal with Right Tracks (the new venture from Chrysalis co-founder Chris Wright) opened up further opportunities.

The band draw on influences such as Wunderhorse, Arctic Monkeys, Geese and The Libertines, and have played gigs alongside the likes of The Molotovs and The Clause.
