Returning like a ray of alt-rock sunshine after the rain, Bull are back with brand new music in the form of the defiantly upbeat ‘Start A New’.

The first new music since 2022’s ‘Stuck Between the Virtual and Physical World’ EP, ‘Start A New’ is a bright and breezy slice of jangle-pop with Tom Beer’s trademark laconic vocals, some beautiful Dinosaur JR inspired lead guitar, and choral backing courtesy of the band’s circle of friends and collaborators.

“I wrote the song ‘Start a New’ in 2020” elaborates Tom. “It’s about, out with the old, in with the new, goodbye clouds of grey, hello skies of blue! I’d been living in Scarborough and looking at the sea, the song feels like a dip in the pool, a trip to the spa, endless days in my chaise. ‘Start a New’ is the whole world according to moi.”

Formed by vocalist and songwriter Tom Beer and guitarist Dan Lucas, Bull started at school, taking inspiration from bands like Yuck, The Modern Lovers, Pavement, The Kinks and the Pixies. The rest of the band joined later and were already legends of the small but vital York music scene, with Tom Gabbatiss on drums, Kai West on bass (having played with cult heroes the Littlemores) and Tom’s sister Holly Beer joining in 2021 on keys and vocals.

Back in 2020 Bull became the first band from York since Shed Seven to sign to a major label when they were picked up by EMI, who released their debut album ‘Discover Effortless Living’.

Supported by DJs as diverse as Clara Amfo, Steve Lamacq and Greg James, Bull have received airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, NTS Radio, Triple J in Australia and more. Their single ‘Disco Living’ was named Radio 1’s ‘Track of The Week’ and their songs ‘Green’ and ‘Eugene’ have been championed by fellow musicians such as Elton John and Stephen Malkmus.

The band have toured with Sports Team, Bodega, Personal Trainer, played shows with Pip Blom, Katy J Pearson and in October of 2022 supported their all-time heroes Pavement. They have also played Leeds and Reading Festival, and numerous festivals across Europe. In 2022 they released a follow up EP ‘Stuck Between the Virtual and Physical World’ introducing new live favourites such as ‘Stuck!’ and ‘Tired of Being Treated Like a Twit’.

The band are playing two headline shows in October to celebrate the release of ‘Start A New’, one at London’s Moth Club and one at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club.
