Future Utopia, the innovative musical project led by Grammy-winning producer Fraser T. Smith, has teamed up with multi-hyphenate Lava La Rue on their trippy new single ‘The Pleasure Trap’. The track is the latest to be taken from Future Utopia’s forthcoming EP Memory Boy, which is due later this year and follows his acclaimed 2024 album Django’s High. Recorded at Fraser T Smith’s Utopia studio, ‘The Pleasure Trap’ is a mesmeric dose of psychedelic synth driven indie-disco. “The first day I walked into Fraser’s studio, he told me about this philosophical idea called The Pleasure Trap — how our primal instincts for comfort, safety, and reproduction are still driving us, and how companies use that to sell us things we don’t really need,” Lava La Rue said of the track. “That concept sparked the song. I’m always finding a way to write about social structures that interest me, whilst still making the song totally enjoyable for the passive listener – and I feel like the song does this perfectly.”

Fraser continues “I’ve been a big fan of Lava and the Nine8 collective for a long time. I really wanted the vocals to be minimal yet powerful, and Lava came with some incredible melodic and lyrical ideas to add a dreamy quality to the topline”

A renowned producer across the world, Fraser T. Smith has worked with the likes of Adele, Stormzy, Gorillaz, Dave and Sam Smith and has received multiple awards across his career, including a Grammy for his contribution to Adele’s album, 21. Fraser also produced and co-wrote Kae Tempest’s latest single ‘Statue In The Square’, which dropped last month and marks their first release since 2022’s ‘I Saw Light’.

Fresh back from a run of European dates Future Utopia have been announced to play a host of UK festivals this summer including Latitude Festival in July and Lost Village in August 2025. For more info head HERE.
