Having just wrapped up a headline UK tour which included a night at London’s coveted The Lexington, Danish/Californian dream pop duo Moon Panda today release their new single ‘Cloud Watching’ via Fierce Panda Records. The new music  follows the recent announcement of their debut album ‘What On Earth’, due for release 4th March 2022, as well as them being selected to play SXSW 2022.

‘Cloud Watching’ is mellow and breezy dream pop, threaded by a psychedelic guitar hook. About the new track vocalist/bassist Maddy Myers says:

“We spent a lot of time this last year trying to learn to skateboard cause we live right next to a skate park and skating looks so freeing. It’d be us slowly wobbling back and forth, and a bunch of 10 year olds just shredding like crazy. Watching these badass kids just going for it, dropping off into the bowl like it was nothing, kind of changed the way I approached my slow, quarantine days. There’s definitely something that you have more figured out when you’re young. An openness to doing something for the joy of it with no other motives. ‘Cloud Watching’ came out of that rediscovery of how satisfying it is to get present and centered in your body. Whether it’s feeling the sun warm your face, feeling your stomach drop as you skate the bowl, feeling your muscles work and tire as you run or stretch or climb. Basically taking some cues from your inner kid and flowing with your intuition.”

‘Cloud Watching’ follows ‘Vacationer’ released last month. Both tracks appear on the band’s forthcoming debut album ‘What On Earth’, alongside the hypnotic ‘Rabbit’ taken from their 2019 debut EP ‘Pastel Pool’, and ‘Slow Drive’, which appeared on their most recent EP ‘Make Well’.

‘What On Earth’ sees Moon Panda gently lull you into their entrancing and dynamic escapist soundscape of dream pop and shoegaze. Speaking further about the album Maddy says “Writing this whole album was basically a tool for self-soothing all of our anxious minds. This time it felt monumental, maybe because the entire world was going through something together.”

Moon Panda are comprised of vocalist/bassist Maddy Myers and guitarist Gustav Moltke. Following the release of ‘Pastel Pool’ in 2019, the band signed to legendary British label Fierce Panda for their second EP ‘Make Well’ in 2020. The release earned critical acclaim for it’s luscious, blissed out vibes across grooving bass lines with BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne declaring ‘Slow Drive’ her ‘favourite track of the year so far…top of the pile for me.’

As the love from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and radio stations across the globe grew, Moon Panda realised they were accidentally indulging in a spot of public service broadcasting: as the streaming figures multiplied, so did the messages of thanks from the lockdowned masses across the globe who were using the duos’ music to transport themselves out of their locked down discomfort zones. ‘Slow Drive’ was featured in episode 5 of CBS Studios’ ‘The Republic Of Sarah’, which was broadcast on North American TV channel The CW in July 2021. Having notable shows supporting The Japanese House, Slow Club and Psychedelic P**n Crumpets – Moon Panda have toured throughout the UK and Denmark.
