With sass, swagger and ultra-addictive hooks, songs like ‘Ready To Go’ and ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ made Republica an unstoppable force in the mid-’90s. And they’re still being discovered by new audiences today after those songs soundtracked an array of pop culture moments with over 500 syncs to date including ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘Yellowjackets’ – not to mention being featured in a Dua Lipa / Vogue campaign and in the new ‘Trainspotting’ musical.
Now Republica turn back the clock as they announce that a 30th Anniversary Special Edition of their self-titled debut album will be released on October 9th.
Republica’s breakthrough saw them become one of the key artists in a year in which the music industry started supporting strong and empowered female singer-songwriters on a global scale – see also Alanis Morissette, Garbage and No Doubt. Their debut album has lost none of its effervescent spark, its cocktail of dance beats, gritty rock guitar and the captivating sneer from larger-than-life vocalist Saffron feeling as forthright and hedonistic as ever.
This 30th Anniversary Special Edition features the original album and now adds the ‘A Day At The Races’ live recording which was captured at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on August 2nd, 1997. Six songs from the set were briefly available on CD all those years ago, while the remaining three are released here for the first time ever – all mixed and mastered from the original multi-track recording.
The 30th Anniversary Special Edition will be pressed on double-vinyl. Its red-and-black cornetto-coloured pressing references Saffron’s iconic hair – one of the most recognisable looks of the era. It is available to pre-order HERE.
Saffron says, “I’m delighted to announce the rerelease of REPUBLICA’s debut album for our 30th anniversary to coincide with the U.K. tour in October. This is for all our fans and followers worldwide who have supported us from the beginning and lots of new ones too. Thank you!”
