Royel Otis share their latest effortlessly infectious single, “car,” a bittersweet slice of jangle pop out now on OURNESS / Capitol Records. The summery new song was today’s BBC Radio 1 “Hottest Record” track and arrives alongside the news that the celebrated Aussie duo will release their second studio album, hickey, on August 22 — pre-order or add that highly anticipated set HERE.

Cowritten by Royel Otis (Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic) with writer/producers Blake Slatkin (Gracie Abrams, Omar Apollo) and Omer Fedi (Lil Nas X, the Kid LAROI), “car” is strikingly minimal and all the more catchy and affecting for it. Wistful melodies mix with driving drums as Otis dreamily sings a painful farewell: “Yeah I’ll meet you at the car on the corner, but we know it’s gotta change sometime / You know I love the taste of your water, but I think it’s time to say goodbye.”

Royel Otis recently gave “car” a proper live debut at The Governors Ball after teasing the song at pop-up shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto (where they also played to the legions of fans outside who didn’t make it in). Watch their full acoustic performance of “car” live at L.A.’s landmark Red Lion Tavern HERE. The new release follows last month’s “moody,” a lilting cut with an endearing late-’90s slacker groove co-written by Amy Allen — and the first taste of hickey.

While the band is currently on a tear through just about every festival worth attending — including Governor’s Ball (New York City), Lollapalooza (Chicago), Outside Lands (San Francisco), and more — Royel Otis also recently announced their upcoming “meet me in the car” tour which will find them headlining cities across North America. The pair have already sold out major cities such as Austin, TX and New York City. Visit https://www.royelotis.com/tour/ for more info
