Sananda Maitreya now completes his remastered album series campaign with the digital release of his fourth album ‘Vibrator’. The album is also available as part of the six-LP box set ‘Juvenilia: The Columbia Years’, which charts his early career from the massive commercial and cultural impact of his debut ‘Introducing The Hardline According To Sananda Maitreya’ through to three increasingly ambitious and visionary follow-up records.
Now a cult favourite among fans, ‘Vibrator’ found Sananda Maitreya in a strong artistic position – one in which he reached a sweet spot between the songcraft of his debut and the deeper explorations into soul, funk, R&B and post millennium rock that made ‘Neither Fish Nor Flesh’ and ‘Symphony Or Damn’ so audacious. It saw him return to the UK Singles Chart, hitting the Top 20 with ‘Holding On To You’, a song which, like ‘Supermodel Sandwich’ and the title track, remains a regular feature of his live shows. The album charted at No. 11, maintaining that position for three weeks.
Sananda commented, “WELCOME NEWLY REMASTERED ‘VIBRATOR’ into our Current, Present REALITY! And THANX FROM THE HEARTSPACE that our collective desires made it REAL. WE APPRECIATE THIS ONGOING EXPERIENCE VERY MUCH.”
‘Juvenilia: The Columbia Years’ marks a powerful moment of rediscovery for Sananda Maitreya. The box set represents the journey of a young artist in the act of finding his voice. As songs such as ‘Sign Your Name’, ‘Delicate’, ‘She Kissed Me’ and ‘Holding On To You’reveal, his artistry was already bold, vulnerable, and driven by a fearless urge to challenge conventions – a spirit that remains unchanged over 30 years on from ‘VIBRATOR’.
The box set is available HERE. In addition to the six LPs, it is completed by restored artwork, archival visuals and new liner notes written by Sananda himself.
The campaign has also allowed Sananda Maitreya to bring his journey up to date.
