Some One’s Sons, rising stars of Ireland’s resurgent folk scene, return with Day Two, a ballad of love, doubt, and second chances. Known for their evocative storytelling and heartfelt ballads, the Mullingar-based five-piece delve into the journey of rediscovering love after losing faith in it.

At its core, Day Two is a song about unexpected hope. The narrator, once convinced that love was beyond their reach, finds themselves swept up in an unforeseen romance—what they call their “last first dance.” Through vivid imagery of wedding halls, late-night celebrations, and the timeless tradition of an Irish pub reunion, the song captures the magic of love’s surprises. “This song is about taking a chance when you least expect it,” says singer-songwriter Daniel Allen. “We wanted to capture that feeling of surprise—of love sneaking up on you when you’ve given up on it.”

“You’ll never catch me at the end of the aisle / I’m too fond of drinking, had the fear for a while,” the narrator admits, yet as the night unfolds, their defenses crumble. By the early hours, lost in a lover’s trance, they take a leap of faith—bribing the barman for one last drink and embracing a chance at something real.

The chorus poses a simple yet poignant question: “When all this is over / And heads have recovered / And you find some room in your heart / When you’re in for a few / Sometime after Day Two / Will I meet you in Smiddys or Clarkes?” It’s a reflection on the fleeting nature of moments and the lingering hope that love can last beyond the haze of celebration.

Daniel brings the song’s emotions to life with a vocal delivery that is both raw and intimate, evoking the warmth of Irish folk legends like Liam Clancy, while instrumentally, the track carries shades of folk contemporaries Amble. With Day Two, Some One’s Sons continue to solidify their reputation as masterful storytellers, blending tradition with contemporary folk sounds that resonate across generations.

Fresh off a string of sold-out performances and major festival appearances, Some One’s Sons are firmly establishing themselves as one of Ireland’s most captivating live acts. Currently in the midst of their debut Irish and UK tour, they have played to packed crowds in Liverpool, London and Galway, with a May bank holiday gig in Whelan’s, and a special hometown performance in Mullingar still to come. Following the tour, they will embark on a summer festival run, including performances at Electric Picnic and a support slot for The Scratch at Galway Folk Fest. As anticipation builds for Day Two, fans can expect a track that speaks to anyone who has ever doubted love, only to find it when they least expected it.
