The single that’s entirely self-produced by SOPHIE, also comes alongside a special ATMOS mix, with both versions mixed by 4-time GRAMMY-award winning engineer Robert Orton. The eighties inspired synth driven earworm is the latest single after the release of ‘Dirty Thoughts’ with Austin Brown which came out earlier this year.
Pulsating with a driving bassline and layered with lush, heavy synths, ‘On Hold’ is fresh with a nostalgic yet futuristic ambience. Echoing vocals reverberate throughout, whilst soaring chorus hooks and shimmering keys channel the drama and glamour of timeless electronic pop, while tackling the digital age’s most relatable conundrum: Being ghosted.
Speaking on the single, Sophie says, “Being ghosted, being left on ‘delivered’, being left ON HOLD. These are scenarios that are just too common in our daily lives. I’m over it. Leave me ON HOLD, and see what happens.”
Sophie Grey. is taking on the world one song at a time armed with her keytar synth-axe and a propensity for writing, arranging, performing and producing her own modern electro, new wave-inspired music. This summer, she’ll be taking her “Retro Electro” sound across arenas in Europe when she opens for music icon Sting as well performing solo shows in Amsterdam and London as part of SXSW.
A classically-trained pianist and keyboardist who studied piano performance at Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, SOPHIE was mentored by songwriter and GRAMMY-award-nominated Dr. Patrice Rushen (“Forget Me Nots”). SOPHIE also honed her engineering and production skills growing up between Kansas City and Los Angeles where she worked at the renowned Village Recorder Studios.
